El trato a Vertigo ha sido bastante considerado este año. Aquí tenemos las dos series nuevas de 2009 nominadas. Aunque la aparición de SWEET TOOTH sea algo discutible. Por otra parte me sorprende la presencia de la zafia y vulgar CHEW.

Si hacemos un breve repaso, vemos que Vertigo ha conseguido 9 nominaciones (5 Editoriales + 4 a autores), las mismas que en 2008 y 2 menos que el año pasado. La serie más nominada ha sido en esta ocasión THE UNWRITTEN, con 3 nominaciones (las tres editoriales). Seguida - como no - por FABLES con 2 (1 Editorial + 1 a Autor).

Fables continúa camino de convertirse en la serie de Vertigo con más nominaciones. Tras la conseguida este año ya suman siete las nominaciones editoriales en sus ocho años de historia. No está nada mal. Sin embargo, esta colección pierde este año su tradicional nominación en la categoría de Mejor portadista, en la que James Jean demostraba una hegemonía total.

Esperemos sin embargo que nuestro sello “for mature readers” favorito, mejore la marca del año pasado. Puesto que de 11 nominaciones sólo se consiguieron recoger 2 premios.

Respecto al resto de nominaciones, DC Cómics vuelve un año más a ser la editorial más nominada con 22 nominaciones incluyendo todos sus sellos (DCU, Vertigo, WildStorm, Zuda). Veremos los premios que finalmente logra conseguir. Le sigue Fantagraphics Books con 17 nominaciones.Marvel obtiene por su parte 10 nominaciones, aunque principalmente enfocadas en las mismas obras (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Incognito y Criminal). Fanfare/Ponent Mon, como ya hemos comentado, consigue 7 nominaciones, más que muchas independientes autóctonas. BOOM! obtiene 7 nom., gracias principalmente al Irredeemable de Mark Waid. Destacamos también IDW, con 6 nominaciones. Dark Horse sin embargo ha tenido años mejores y en esta ocasión sólo repliega 6 nominaciones. Y terminamos con Image Comics, agraciada tan sólo con 5 n.

The Unwritten e Irredeemable, las dos con 3 nominaciones, son las series más nominadas. A su vez, Naoki Urasawa es el autor cuyas obras (20th Century Boys y Pluto) han recibido más nominaciones: 5 (4 editoriales + 1 de autor). Y para terminar con el capítulo de más nominados, Asterios Polyp de David Mazzucchelli es la obra con más nominaciones al obtener 4, (1 Editoriales y 3 de autor).

Para terminar el repaso, un caso curioso de posible mano negra. La saga Blackest Night, nominada a la mejor miniserie y al mejor guionista de este año, se publicó en el periodo de junio 2009 / abril 2010. En diciembre iba por el #04, justo por la mitad. De manera que ha recibido la nominación sin haber siquiera concluido la miniserie en 2009. Estamos ante un caso que tal vez sugiera debate sobre el criterio aplicado por los jueces. Lo que es innegable es que la agraciada resulta ser un famoso crossover de una importante editorial mainstream.

Los ganadores serán conocidos el próximo 23 de julio. Como siempre dentro del marco de la San Diego Comic Con (post de referencia aquí).

PREMIOS EISNER 2009 Y RESULTADO DE LAS QUINIELAS:

El pasado viernes 24 de julio se concedieron finalmente los Eisner Awards 2009. Como viene siendo costumbre en este blog, ahora toca hacer un correspondiente repaso a los premiados. Este fantástico ilustrador alcance en 2009 su Eisner número 7. Tal galardon hace ascender el cómputo global de premios Eisner conseguidos por FABLES a 17. En el ranking histórico, DC sigue encabezando la lista de la Editorial más premiada con un 37%. Tras ella encontramos a Dark Horse (19%) y a Marvel (6%) aunque a considerable distancia. A nivel de Sellos Editoriales, VERTIGO también se mantiene a la cabeza. Al parecer, propuestas como MARVEL MAX o ICON no consiguen la suficiente repercusión dentro del marco de la crítica.

Analizando el 2009 en sí, Dark Horse es la gran triunfadora con 8 premios (5 Editoriales y 3 a Autores), aumentando su marca del año pasado en un premio más. DC desciende a 4 Eisners (4 menos que el año pasado) así como Marvel e Image aumentan sus marcas sobre 2008.

En cuanto a VERTIGO, los resultados no se pueden considerar muy positivos. Consigue sólo 2 premios de las 11 nominaciones a la que aspiraba, si bien es cierto que con frecuencia varias obras del sello competían en la misma categoría (Mejor Serie Nueva, Mejor Equipo de Dibujo, Mejor Guionista). Sólo ha conseguido premios de autor; tenemos que remontarnos a 1998 para encontrar un año en que VERTIGO no hubiera conseguido un Premio Editorial y a 2003 para encontrar un año con tan pocos premios. Y lo peor de todo es que la edición que viene nuestro amado sello no cuenta con James Jean, ganador absoluto en su categoría desde 2004. Esto podría implicar (en el escenario más negativo posible) que VERTIGO no consiguiera ningún Premio Eisner en 2010, cosa que no ha ocurrido nunca en la historia del sello. Pero bueno, eso ya se verá.

De las tres unanimidades que había (Mejor Trabajo Basado en Hechos Reales, Mejor Guionista y Mejor Portadista), nuestro grupo de invitados ha acertado dos, Mejor Guionista y Mejor Portadista. Por otro lado, es curioso ver como nuestro dibujante Víctor Santos ha acertado gran cantidad de premios técnicos, demostrando ser un gran entendido en la profesión.

Y eso ha sido todo por este año. De cara a la siguiente edición, espero poder seguir haciendo este tipo de cobertura a los Eisner, puesto que por mi parte resulta tremendamente divertido. Gracias de nuevo a los colaboradores en las quinielas, espero que os haya agradado participar en este juego.

En clave Vertigo, a penas dos nominaciones son las que suma el sello en esta ocasión, ambas ampliamente reconocidas y merecidas.
Además, hacer notar que en esta edición han sido muchas las nominaciones a independientes o a material on-line. Es de agradecer la labor realizada de cara a difundir este nuevo medio de comunicación y edición.
Y finalmente, comentar que me alegran las nominaciones a ESSEX COUNTY, SKIM y especialmente la atención que ha recibido MICE TEMPLAR, serie que pese a parecerme demasiado exigente y rebuscada para ser apreciada por un profano al género, no se le puede negar su calidad. Y por supuesto, la nominación de la fantástica Local de Brian Wood, cuya edición no he tenido el placer de poder apreciar.
Eso es todo por ahora, la próxima cita será en la entrega de premios, que tendrá lugar el próximo 10 de Octubre durante la Baltimore Comic Con.

Repasando las quinielas, encontramos varias nominaciones en las que ha habido completa unanimidad:
-Blue Pills: A Positive Love Story como Mejor Trabajo Basado en Hechos Reales.
-Bill Willingham como Mejor Guionista.
- James Jean como Mejor Portadista
Se han votado todas las categoría excepto dos, Mejor Historia Corta y Mejor Publicación de Humor, cuyas nominaciones eran bastante desconocidas. Finalmente, las categoría más votadas han sido MEJOR SERIE CONTINUADA y MEJOR EQUIPO DIBUJANTE /ENTINTADOR; contando las dos con los 5 participantes.
Y con esto concluimos por ahora las quinielas. Al igual que el año anterior, una vez se conozcan los premiados dedicaré un post a contrastar resultados / quinielas.
